My students need to learn how to use new technology. My HS students are entering the workforce soon and need to be more apt with tech to compete nationally. We need a tablet!

My Students
"Equal education for all!" NOT ALWAYS TRUE. We are trying to give our students what they need to be successful, compete nationally, and ultimately contribute to society. Most of my kids never get to use technology, and as you know, technology is the key to the future. Help us get through the door.
We are an Accelerated High School for under-credited and over-aged students.
My kids are between the ages of 16-21 and are doing the best they can to successfully earn their HS diploma. Sadly, growing up in the urban city in Louisiana, my students have had to deal with many negative factors in their lives (poverty, lack of home support, violence, etc) that no student should ever have to persevere through. While some students across the nation may have one of these negative contributing factors, a majority of OUR students deal with multiple or even all of these factors.
Thankfully, rather than giving up, my kids have chosen to try to make one last try to pursue their education. Most of them need to travel 45 min to 2 hours to school. In addition, many of our students have jobs and a large percentage of our female population have their own children to support.
For a lot of my students, this will be their only chance to access TECHNOLOGY. We are thankful for whatever you can give.
My Project
In our classrooms, we do a lot of small group activities to promote collaboration and positive group skills. Our goal is to make one of these small groups be focused around the tablet. This will be especially important for Algebra I and Geometry because those subjects can be very visual for some students. We will be able to use the tablet for geometry by looking at angle relationships and seeing how as you change the degree of one angle, how it affects the other angles in the shape.
This will also be especially helpful for algebra I also because you can use the visuals to help see how shapes and functions can be translated across the coordinate grids.
There is a lot to be said for adding a strong visual component to any lecture or activity, especially with a large group of students that learn through different modalities. Another key factor of working with the tablet is just to get our students more savvy with technology as most careers require being proficient with technology.
We really need your help.
My students ARE the most at-risk student population in the nation. We must help provide them with skills to successfully function within society so they do not resort to other means. However, our school's goal is not to just "get" them a diploma, but to provide them with an education that WILL make them able to compete nationally in academics and jobs. If they do not have access to the same technology as everyone else, this goal will never come to fruition. Thanks.
