I am a Kindergarten teacher at Sherman Elementary School, where we are in the process of replacing our stark, asphalt yards with "Green Schoolyards." Most of our students do not have yards at home because of the close living quarters in San Francisco, so we hope that our school can help these children develop an appreciation for natural beauty and the life cycle of plants. An important feature in our Green Schoolyard will be an outdoor classroom where students can learn about growing and maintaining different types of plants. In order to give our students a hands-on learning experience, we will need garden tools and equipment including shovels, weeders, pruners, rakes, a wheel barrow, and a hose. Thank you so much for your consideration of my request- my students and I are very excited to embark on this new project and develop a greater understanding of our natural environment.
