My students need 6 basketballs to help our team learn basic athletic skills!

Hooray! This project is fully funded
Title IX is 38 years old this year-although if you came to my school's neighborhood, you'd think it never existed. There are no opportunities for young girls to play sports.
I teach 7th grade at a small middle school in the poorest Congressional district in the country.
I'm also the girls' basketball coach. This is the third year our school has had a girls' basketball team. There are very few resources for female athletes in our community: only one of my girls had ever played team sports before our team. Most of them had never ever HELD a basketball before. Through athletics, girls can learn valuable things about teamwork, competition, and self esteem. However, many of my students have never had that opportunity.
The girls' basketball team has been such a huge benefit for our females. It gets them excited about sports and teamwork. It also teaches them the benefit of being a student-athlete, focusing on their schoolwork so that they can still be on the team. I'm also hoping that it will allow them the opportunity to play basketball in high school and college.
The only thing holding us back right now are supplies.
We have very little money in our budget for basketball items. We share a couple of balls, but that's not allowing us to get the most out of practice. If we had a few more balls, we could work more on ball-handling skills and shooting for the whole team. With your help, you can ensure that my female student-athletes really get the practice time they deserve so they can aim for success now and in the future. Thank you from all of us.
