This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
We are so blessed to have Princeton and Meli (Greek word for honey) donated to our wonderful classroom this week! We are extremely excited to add them to our school community and classroom family! We have organized our class into teams of students to provide different forms of care for our new class pets. Some are in charge of feedings, while others are in charge of cleanings and play/socialization times. We are practicing empathy and compassion by observing and modifying our care according to their responses to our classroom environment and regular needs.
We can provide all the love and attention for free but need help funding the other necessities.
Unfortunately, these little love bugs require a lot of care and maintenance.
They eat about 2-4 cups of guinea pig food per day. They also require their hay cup to be full at all times. Princeton and Melissa also appreciate a few treats throughout the day. Because they eat so much, they also use the bathroom quite often throughout the day and require a lot of bedding changes. A travel-friendly cage will allow for families to take them home on weekends. An automatic feeder will ensure that our hungry little guys never miss a meal!
Toys for mental stimulation, when nobody is around, are crucial (balls, sticks, hideouts). In addition, cage liners and towels are essential for a clean classroom and so students remain soil free.
