My Students
My classroom consists of many different levels of students. I have some students who require enrichment activities to intrigue their interests and curiosities at a higher level and some students who thrive better off of a more hands-on and tactile approach. All of my students become fully engaged when lessons are presented in a kinesthetic approach.
They all seem to learn best when working together with partners or in small groups.
They teach each other their own learning styles. Lessons that are tied into the standards, presented with a "hook" or "phenomenon" spark their interests and helps them begin the learning. These hands-on tools enhance that learning and help my students retain the information longer.
My Project
My students are more intrigued and engaged with technology then any other form of teaching. They respond with excitement, eagerness to learn and have higher attention spans when it is their turn to use the computers. There are several apps available for students that can supplement my teaching and advance their learning, but with only limited technology resources, many of my students do not get the chance to spend time using this type of enrichment tool. We currently only have three iPad Minis in our classroom for 22 students to share. There are many enrichment activities on line to help my students' learning grow. With only three iPads, my students have to wait for their rotation to get on an iPad. With limited time and limited iPads, sometimes several days may pass to get to work on a particular project. Having more iPads available at their finger tips, would make their time spent with technology support more often and beneficial to the students.
My students love coming in the classroom in the morning and racing to be the first person on the iPads.
They utilize our new math program called I-Ready math. I see my students smiling, engaged and feeling successful as they reach new levels. This program is differentiated and meets the needs of every student on their own level. It advances the student as they progress with each standard presented to them. This helps prepare my 2nd graders for 3rd grade math and TCAP Readiness. Another great program that my students use in the classroom is StarFall Reading. This program offers lessons presented to students in a whimsical, funny and with animated types of characters. It presents lessons in song format, story format and story writing format. My students need these iPads to enhance their learning!
