This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The kids grow, the amount of textbooks grow, but the size of the desk doesn't. In our Fifth Grade classroom, we don't have enough room for all the books, notebooks, and binders that our students use to keep organized. Having a shelf under their chair would really help!
I have a broad range of students in my class which include students with learning disabilities.
They are all hard-working and bright. They want to succeed even though many have social and economic challenges. Our school is a Title I school and is focused on student achievement.
My Project
My students need more storage space with 30 Under-The-Chair Storage Shelves, for their belongings and materials. If my students have a place to put their binders and other materials, they will have more room to work in collaborative groups. In addition, I teach Science for the grade-level and it difficult to conduct investigation and experiments with extra materials in the way. The students can focus on learning and not on where can I put my stuff. For some students, extra things on a desk are a major distraction.
I work very hard to follow through with my students.
If I tell them I am going to do something, I do everything that I can to make it happen. I am building trust and trust doesn't come easy. The request may seem small but the impact will be huge. Showing that you invested in their future will put a smile on their face and also teach them that if you dream it, it can happen. They wanted this, I just told them how I could make it happen.
