Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Last year, our classroom acquired new science and social studies for all our students. However, the books are contained in old baskets and bins. With heavy duty bins, we could organize the classroom library and preserve our new books. I am also in need of new labels and a heavy duty stapler.
My students are a group of 30 eager to learn first graders, They are all bilingual students and are eager to learn about the world around them.
They are inquisitive, active, and very ready to learn as much as I can provide for them. They are especially interested in science books!
My Project
Having some heavy duty book bins will allow students to organize and better care for our classroom books. The students will be able to create bins of animal books, poetry books, folktales, science books, and many other categories. We have book bins in our classroom that are old and not able to handle the wear and tear of 30 pairs of hands. We are also in need of an electric sharpener. The motor on our old sharpener blew out at the beginning of the school year, and it takes my tiny students a great deal of time to sharpen their pencils.
My first graders will learn to care for our classroom books and make it easier to find the books they love.
I hope that having the ownership of our classroom library will teach them the responsibility of being part of our classroom community. A more organized library will make it easier for my students to borrow books to take home.
