it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The new school year will kick off in just a month, and I am more excited than ever to welcome 24 first graders into our new classroom. The most important lesson I've learned in my teaching career is that I can't do it alone. It takes a lot of time, energy, and love to maintain a classroom of 24 first graders. Not only from myself, but from the broader communities in which we are situated. Please help us access the support that we need and deserve!
My Project
As a teacher, my greatest obstacle is ensuring that there are enough "good fit" books for every one of my students. "Good fit" books are challenging, accessible, and interesting. In a classroom where some students are flying through chapter books while others are stuck on letter sounds, this proves to be a difficult task.
Each student will have books that are "appropriately challenging," and we will connect their learning to real-life phenomena.
For example, having a butterfly nursery will boost student engagement as we learn about the butterfly life cycle. I am seeking resources that will not only push my students to the next reading level, but will make them fall in love with reading in the process.
