My Project
I work as a speech-language pathologist in a public special education preschool in the Bronx. My students are bright, joyful, and resilient, despite facing communication challenges. Many are non-speaking, but that doesn’t mean they don’t have something to say—they just need the right tools to say it.
This iPad will allow me to introduce AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) apps, which use visuals, symbols, and voice output to help students express themselves.
My goal is to give each child access to a voice—whether it's to ask for help, share a thought, or simply say “hi” to a friend. This technology will help them engage more fully in the classroom, build relationships, and participate in learning activities in a meaningful way.
My students are special because of their strength, their spark, and their determination to connect with the world. With this device, they won’t just be learning to communicate—they’ll be learning that their voice matters.
