This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Elementary students long to touch whatever they see when they walk into a Music room filled with instruments. The big shiny keys of the Orff that make noise spark their curiosity and fill their hearts with unexplainable joy. It's hard for elementary students to keep their hands to themselves especially when they haven't been exposed. Every day, it breaks my heart, I have to tell them we don't have the tools to play them...yet. Unfortunately, there are no power devices to turn on the keyboards. The xylophones and orff instruments are dusty without mallets for hands eager to play. The guitars are in their bags with only a few in eye view. Once a day a student, who just can't keep his hands to himself, will strike a string only to be told not today because none of the guitars are in tune.
It would be a delight to empower students who live below the poverty line with the gift of learning to play instruments.
We just need the tools to make musical magic.
Having the ability to use the instruments we already have will also enhance our performances including the Hispanic Heritage, Christmas and Black History program.
