Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am currently an English as a Second Language (ESL) teacher at a Title I school. My school is located in a diverse, urban neighborhood that is characterized by poverty and violence in Trenton, New Jersey. Unfortunately, many of our students have lost motivation and interest in school and learning after the pandemic. In efforts to shift their attitude toward school, our school will be readopting a student recognition program that acknowledges the hard work of one student in each classroom every month.

Since academic research confirms that recognizing students’ achievements increase student engagement and produces a positive school environment, my school desperately needs a colored printer and prizes to celebrate our students' hard work!

With the printer, we will be able to display the picture of the students in the "Students of the Month" showcase in the main corridor for teachers, parents, and community members to see, giving students a sense of pride. In the past, students loved seeing their pictures in the showcase. By donating to our project, our students will realize that rewards come to those who demonstrate hard work and good moral character. This will hopefully motivate them to strive for academic excellence!
