This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you remember what is was like to be a first grader being read to on a story time rug? I am trying to give my students this same opportunity. Help my students enjoy story time by giving them a place to sit.

My class is composed of six students diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder.

The students are members of a specialized class in a specialized school in New York. Many of my students have difficulties sitting on the floor during story time because of low muscle tone and coordination difficulties. These students require techniques that build muscle strength and coordination in order to join the class on the floor during story time.

My Project

The chairs that I am requesting would allow my students to join us on the reading rug without having to completely support themselves while seated on the floor. The ball chairs will allow students a place to sit while not forcing them to be restricted to a small floor mat. Stability balls are used to address stimulus and improve focus while providing postural conditioning.

These chairs will give my students the opportunity to experience something that students in general education classrooms experience everyday; reading together on a rug.
