it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students live in a high crime, low income area of New York in which there is a dire need for creative outlets. The drama club provides a medium for them to express themselves. While they express themselves, it is important that their voices not be encumbered by poor acoustics and equipment.
Our drama club is made up of ordinary children who aim to do extraordinary things.
They have participated in the drama club for two years and have performed in several acclaimed productions. Half of the students are English Language Learners who use the drama club as a means to strengthen their language skills. The others are students who have found a creative outlet in the drama club in which they feel free to explore and express themselves in a safe nurturing environment.
My Project
We are requesting a wireless microphone headset to expand our audio system. We are putting on a production of a new musical called "The Clowns," based on Leoncavallo's "Pagliacci," set in the Motown era. Our show opens on June 2, 2010. Having these resources will give our students confidence that they'll be heard despite the challenges our auditorium. This will also free them physically so that they can be more expressive as they sing, move and act.
As our students discover their voices and talents, it is important that their voices are heard.
Our productions are the highlight of the school year for the entire community. They allow parents to see positive things happen in he school. They also provide enriching and worthwhile experiences for the students who have something to look forward to as they attend school each day.
