Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are enthusiastic to learn and deserve the resources to help them. My classroom is made up of amazing, wonderful, courageous students that have a unique outlook on life. They all come from different social and ethnic backgrounds but also have various learning abilities. My students enjoy hands-on activities that allow them to be creative and learn at the same time. Many of my students struggle to have access to basic supplies for the classroom. Every one of my students strives to do their best in and out of the classroom despite the challenges we experience.
My Project
Our students haven't had a field trip since March 2020, right before the beginning of the pandemic. Our students are usually confined to their neighborhoods and city due to a lack of economic resources. But because of technology, their bodies can remain in the classroom, while their mind and spirit can travel around the world and beyond.
At my school, more than 50% of students are Black, Latinx, and or Native American, and more than 50% come from low-income households.
Without school field trips, students will have limited opportunities to visit local historical sites.
I truly believe virtual reality technology would allow our students to see things they would never have the chance to. The impact would be immeasurable. We will be able to plan virtual field trips to visit not only local historic sites but countries and continents that we are learning about in our social studies units.
Instead of looking at pictures as we learn about coral reefs. Students will have the opportunity to virtually swim in oceans to see coral reefs in person, and why it’s important to be protected.
