Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

The students in my class are using teacher created pads that I call "have a go" pads. This lets the students try spelling words twice and then ask the teacher to help them with the spelling. The students then create their own spelling list that they practice and have a test on each Friday. This system gives them a chance to practice words that they actually use in everyday life. I have a class of 33 students which is growing everyday. I am running out of materials and will not have enough journals for the second half of the school year. I teach all the core subjects in a low income, poverty-stricken area. The students are using bigger words and more advanced vocabulary because they have this tool at their disposal. I will need a small spiral notebook and a large spiral notebook for each student to record their lists and words. My students whom are mostly native Spanish speakers are benefiting from the effort that goes into this activity but they also are experiencing achievement and want to use their "have a go" pads.
