My students need four graphing calculators to study vertical/horizontal shifts and stretches/compresses of functions.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
"Math is like going to the gym for your brain. It sharpens your mind." - Danica McKellar
My Pre-Calculus students are between 10th and 12th grade.
They are bright, work well in teams, goal oriented and yet are also sometimes unsure of themselves. They need more confidence in their math abilities and you can help. This school is a lighthouse for the community - a sanctuary for students. Students need to feel successful and having the appropriate tools to quickly analyze function trends will really help students lower their anxiety and negative attitudes towards math.
My Project
Making a table of values to graph a function can really slow down the learning process. Having a few graphing calculators will speed up our analysis of functions - polynomials, trigonometric, exponential, all of them! They will learn the effects of shifts and stretches on functions and be able to describe the effects of those transformations to their groups. This will help students present information to their peers that shows their analysis of data.
This project will help my students make connections faster.
We can cover more material by expediting their practice and investigations. If they have these tools available they can spend more of their times connecting material together instead of graphing functions by hand.
