My Project

I teach at a Title I Middle school in beautiful Brooklyn, NY. My students are extremely bright and curious about the world around them. The world they know is often harsh and limits them in many ways, but they are eager to learn about new places and cultures by any means possible.

As our country embraces new educational standards, our students must rise to the occasion and become the best they can be.

My students MUST learn about the world around them and nonfiction is one of the best ways to do that. However, many nonfiction sources are dry and not geared towards my students, who are fascinated by new and interesting topics. I rediscovered Scholastic Magazines several years ago after being exposed to them as a kid (weren't we all?). After sampling issues of Upfront with my class, I was HOOKED! My students LOVED these amazing magazines and I loved the interactive features that accompany each issue. The only problem was that, without the generosity of donors like you, I would never have been able to afford obtaining them for all of my students.

School budgets continue to be strained, but I refused to abandon this exceptional tool. I know there are many people who want to support public education and help students to meet the new standards.
