Help My Students Read Off the Beaten Path Dystopias!
My students need books that will inspire them. Books that will transform their current way of thinking and lead them to new worlds. Books that they fall in love with.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are amazing individuals who only deserve the best in life. In order to obtain that, they deserve the best education that they can possibly attain.
Clifton, NJ, is an incredibly diverse community.
It serves all races, religions, cultures, and socioeconomic backgrounds. This is probably the greatest gift that the community gives to my students—their knowledge and understanding of all cultures. This is something that I would like to grow and expand by showing them other views of a world different from their own.
My Project
This year, I would like to challenge my students to change the way they see the world by reading what some amazing authors have imagined the world to be. This year, I want to open their eyes to the scars of war, to the fear of a patriarchy, to a world without meaning as envisioned by some truly amazing authors.
I want my students to understand the world through the pages of a book, not the screen of an iPhone.
I want them to be moved by an idea of a world that is not actually that far removed from our own, and then I want them to be inspired to take action. I want them to fall in love with words and ideas, but at the same time, fear and loathe them. I want them to experience the emotions of others in a way that society seems to have forgotten.
