Help My Students Increase Their Social Skills While Social Distancing

Help me give my students books that explain emotions and positive behavior, a bingo game to identify emotions, and a journal to draw about themselves.

FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Strong's classroom raised $593

My Students

My classroom is an early childhood autism unit. My students struggle with a lot of skills that come naturally to typical children. Acquiring and maintaining early learning skills happens slowly as they learn best by routine and repetition. I want to send home hands-on supplies that can help reinforce their social/emotional learning, which is something that children on the spectrum really struggle with. Having a child on the autism spectrum is especially challenging for families during the COVID-19 quarantine. I am hopeful that these supplies will give them some to tools to help them interact with their children in a way that will foster an increase in their social/emotional skills.

My Project

My students struggle to identify and process their emotions. I want to send home supplies that will help their families increase their child's social/emotional skills. Through this, I would hope to see an increase in self-regulation and positively handling life's daily struggles. Things that are not difficult for a typical child, can be very difficult for a child on the spectrum to process, which includes social/emotional skills and regulation.

Students with strong social/emotion skills are best equipped to handle any wrench that life throws at them.

The more we can prepare our kids early on, the better their chances are for positive interactions and relationships with others.

Part of learning how to read and interpret emotions is identifying those emotions within yourself and how they look outside of yourself. Using safe hand held mirrors will help my students with this. I also purchase a variety of books for each family that discuss emotions and how to handle those tough emotions. And "All About Me" journal can be used daily to help parents and students write about themselves in a way they wouldn't think to do without prompting.

Thank you for considering a donation to my students. They are a wonderful group and would greatly benefit from these supplies.
