My students need railroad boards, colored pencils, construction paper, and more to further their hands-on, art-infused math education. With your help my students can display their individualized talents.
Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up. ~Pablo Picasso. Infusing the arts into mathematics helps my students retain information and concepts they may not with paper and pencil practice. Our limited resources are stifling the students creativity, help us!
My creative, desire to learn students are growing up in an inner-city community that is a 78% free and reduced lunch population.
Having school supplies such as paper, notebooks and pencils is hard enough, let alone the materials to construct and create. My students use the standards I teach them and create artistic pieces of art that express the skills they have learned. Then they write and explain the skills they have learned, preparing them for our state-wide yearly assessment. They are able to justify and explain how they found their answer to a problem using real-world experiences, relating specifically to themselves or things they love, make learning more meaningful to them.
My Project
I am the one that purchases art supplies for my classroom, unfortunately our school does not have the means to supply every classroom with the desired materials I am asking for, simple things such as construction paper. My students construct fold-able books to give them a tactile means to taking notes or displaying their justifications or explanations to how they solve problems from converting decimals to fractions, or how they classified and described polygons and triangles, or how they used formulas to solve problems involving area. My students apply the elements of art and principals of design to geometric projects, or other projects displaying their learning of a mathematical skill.
With these art materials my students will be able to look forward to a way to display their learning creatively in a way that describes them as a person, student, and artist.
My school is an arts-infused curriculum and the supplies to create and construct can be expensive.
My students will greatly appreciate your donation to their learning and their creative opportunities in the classroom. Simple materials to give scholars an outlet to their creative juices will go a long way and I cannot express to you how much your time and donation will aid my students in our weekly project construction, giving their tactile and artistic sides a way to express what they've learned
