Graphing is a crucial skill in all levels of high school mathematics. Yet graphing brings a lot of frustration because every mistake means a new piece of graph paper or drawing a new grid. Hand-drawn grids are not accurate enough for the upper-level of mathematics, leading to misunderstanding. It can also be difficult for a teacher to inspect each student's graphing carefully during class. As a high school math teacher of everything from algebra I to pre-calculus, I would love to have a class set of white boards and markers. This would allow every student to have an accurate, labeled coordinate grid for use. Mistakes can be fixed easily, and I can see any student's work from across the room. The second blank side can be used for everything from class games to skill practice. We have used sheet protectors in a similar manner, and the students really enjoy changing the pace of class, but sheet protectors do not last long, and graphing is still difficult. A class set of these individual white boards, a set of mini-erasers, and dry erase markers would have an important impact on my classes. I teach 120 students a day, all who would use the white boards with frequency. With this resource, graphing will become an activity to enjoy, rather than a chore.
