Science should be the most intriguing subject to learn. There is so much to see and so much to do when it comes to science. My classroom falls short when it comes to hands-on learning opportunities. I would love to be able to show my students how much fun learning science can be.
My students attend an inner-city school.
The school is in a low-income community. They are in middle school, which is a critical juncture in their educational careers. My students are very eager to learn, but they tend to find traditional ways of teaching and learning boring. They need to see how fun and interesting learning science can be. This will have the potential to motivate them to achieve in middle school and to want to do well in high school, as well. My students appreciate that I try to find ways to enhance their learning. They would really benefit from the requested materials as they would supplement their learning of life science concepts and allow for meaningful, inquiry-based learning.
I try to provide hands-on learning opportunities for my students, but I lack sufficient resources to do this. When I am able to pull together a hands-on learning experience, my classroom just comes to life. I see so much enthusiasm and joy on the faces of my students. They really love being able to actively take part in learning. I also find that they retain information better when they get to complete these types of activities. My students are held to the same standards as students in schools that are well-equipped with labs and all sorts of science materials. The materials I am requesting will help by allowing them to participate in hands-on learning experiences which will allow them to see how plants grow and function. I really need to provide them with learning experiences that will allow them to be successful in high school and that will encourage them to want to attend college. These items will make science interesting and fun for my students.
Your support would put valuable learning tools into the hands of very deserving young people.
They will enable my students to appreciate the field of science and to realize that science is so much more than reading in a textbook. Their faces will just light up when they get the chance to use these materials to conduct hands-on, inquiry-based learning experiences. Providing my students with these resources will help put me one step closer to closing the achievement gap.
