Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students come in at just 3 and 4 years of age, at the beginning of the school year. I teach Pre-K at a title 1 school in the South Bronx. My students are loving, engaging and deserve an amazing first year of school.
Our principal, the teachers, and the entire school community have turned our school from a "failing" school into a school on the rise.
Many of my our students come from incredibly challenging homes. One hundred percent of the school receives free lunch, and many of our students live in homeless shelters, foster homes, etc. Our school runs a food pantry for our families and also provides many students with backpacks filled with supplies. Despite these challenges, my students love to learn. This year is coming back to school will be challenging enough for our students, help us fund these materials so we can make this school year as great as we can!
My Project
My students love listening to read alouds and I find that I do not have enough books in my library centered around my students units of study. We often read 2-3 books a day, and really dig in deep to our texts. My students deserve a really great collection of diverse books that will help them continue to build upon their love of learning and reading. These books will help my culturally diverse class of learners realize that they are all unique and different. These books will really help diversify our classroom collection!
