Help me give my students who are nonverbal an iPad with a communication app.
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Larsen's classroom raised $651
This project is fully funded
My Students
My class consists of 6 non-verbal or minimally verbal 17-21 year olds functioning between a pre-k and first grade level. They are all diagnosed with autism. Despite their severe disabilities and challenging behaviors, each of them puts a smile on my face everyday.
Communicating can cause so much frustration for my students!
We are constantly looking for teach them new ways to communicate their wants and needs and therefore decrease many of their challenging behaviors. This allows them to integrate into the community which is vital since they are all getting close to graduating.
My Project
My students are too often frustrated by their inability to communicate their wants and needs effectively. This can lead to some very challenging and disruptive behaviors. Having a mode of communication that is readily accessible will make all the difference.
Having an iPad with a communication application will allow students to have their own voice!
These apps which have voice output will allow the students to choose pictures of desired or needed items or activities. It will also allow them to participate more effectively in-class lessons. Communication boards can be created for all daily activities and lessons as well as basic communication. This will make all the difference in my students' confidence and education.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
