My Project

I work with High School students who qualify for special education services in the EBD categorical area. I want to help them change the minds of both educators and students who may view them in negative ways. My students are creative, kind, and compassionate individuals who have many strengths, but they are not always able to show it when people know the program they are in. I want to help them change this narrative by using their experiences and their voices to help everyone know what kinds of situations led them to where they are in their lives. The SEL kit is for them to create helpful videos to share with educators and peers (when they feel comfortable) to help them get to know them and teacher them how to connect with other students with EBD in the future.

The videos will be able to be used in Professional Developements as well as a Youtube channel run by the students.

The hope is that they can not only help themselves come to terms with the trauma they have experienced during their educational journeys, but that they can also help their younger siblings and others who may have similar circumstances.
