With mental health issues on the rise amongst our children, our school system hired licensed therapists to work in the schools. Because this is a first for our school system, resources are limited.
In therapy, it is important that not only the therapist have the tools that they need to provide treatment, but the environment also has to be conducive for relaxation to open up.
Some of our students are on the spectrum or have sensory disorders and are considered children with disabilities and need certain atmospheres to help calm them from overstimulation. This room will help provide that for them.
This furniture will give them a place to sit other than a hard school chair, as well as set the environment for the therapeutic process to occur. Lighting is important in helping calm overstimulated children. Currently, there is a bright fluorescent line in the room which only further stimulates an already overactive brain.
Students will use headphones to work on computer assignments and listen to music to help with misbehavior for emotion regulation.
Please help me provide these children with the appropriate atmosphere so that I may help them process some big feelings and fears.
