This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

As the sounds of lunch conclude, my acting class maneuvers around trash cans overflowing with food and begin to let themselves go and become better actors. For me, it is always a pleasure to see many self conscious and shy students blossom into confident and exciting actors by the end of the year.

My students are always a fantastic and energetic group, and I feel privileged to get to work with them.

They come from a variety of backgrounds, but most of them are of either Latino or Vietnamese descent, and have had to overcome living in a very low socioeconomic area. In spite of their lack of material wealth, the students are pretty typical drama students, passionate about acting and always brimming with teenage drama.

My Project

My students and I are are hoping that Disney and you will help use the videos and acting tools in two ways. The first is to give them lessons from different and more seasoned acting coaches. I know that everyone learns differently and because of that, having different acting methods shown to them in a variety of ways will help them better understand how they can tap into the hidden actor inside. The second way that they will use these resources is to see quality acting. As I mentioned above, most of these students have not come from a background that is steeped in Shakespeare, American Classics, or even a recognition of acting masters. I seek to fill that hole in their acting education and build on it so that they can discover a whole world of acting that they have been missing. All of the materials will also help the students to meet the VAPA standards by giving them quality performances to think and write about.

I truly believe that great performances become part of a student's life.

I have often heard students quoting from films that I have shown in class or attempted to try a performance a new way based on something they they have seen another actor do, and that is what I hope to bring to my students with your help. I feel that they can take these experiences to their homes, share them with their parents and siblings, and together appreciate the art of acting more completely.
