Help my Scholars see New York City and a University!

My students need the opportunity to see college first-hand. We believe they have the intelligence/ambition to make it to college. Now we need to show them a pathway to get there.

FULLY FUNDED! Mr. Goldsbury's classroom raised $2,811

My Students

Our students attend school 9 hours a day, most of it is academic time. The past few years, due to budget cuts, our field trip budget is quite literally $0. This means even less opportunities to experience a "real world" education. Visiting a college is a tangible way for them to see what's possible.

Our scholars come from nearly every neighborhood of Boston.

We serve 470 students grades 6-8, and as a "citywide" school, we welcome any and all students. Our school has an extended school day (9 hours) and school year (we began August 20th), so our students work really hard. They are remarkably resilient, thoughtful, funny, and unique. I have the best job in the world.

My Project

Everyone remembers going on a class trip. Interestingly enough, my big class trip in school was to Boston. Now working in Boston, this is an opportunity to expand these students' horizons. We hope to take students to see New York City (many have never been) and see cultural landmarks such as the 9/11 Freedom Towers, the Statue of Liberty, and Times Square. Also, by staying at a university they will see what is on their horizon if they can work hard, believe in themselves, and keep their “eyes on the prize”. I firmly believe that education cannot happen within the four walls of a school. Furthermore, the "cultural" or "enrichment" experiences that come as a part of field trips are a given in suburban schools, and even in small towns like where I grew up. Not so for students in urban school districts. That's just not right. Please consider a donation in any amount. It will quite literally change kids' lives.

While we will ask families to make a contribution to this trip, many of our students' families fall at or below the poverty line.

I want to ensure that every student who has earned the privilege of attending can come, regardless of their ability to pay. Your contribution will make this trip possible for students who might not otherwise afford to come.
