it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Help us get excited about reading! My students are working hard to be reading on grade level. However, my classroom library does not have many current, engaging texts that motivate them to read. I need some books that students can connect to. They read and reread the same few Zach Files books.
I teach third grade in Massachusetts.
The school is in a high poverty area and many of the students are reading below grade level. My students come from low income homes and have limited access to age appropriate literature. For some students, the only time they do have access to books is during school. Their key to success is to become proficient in reading. They work hard each and every day to become smarter. My students are dedicated to becoming "scholars" and graduate high school and go to college. It is crucial to get them reading on grade level in order for them to achieve these goals! The only way I can do this is getting them to read, read, read!
My Project
The addition of current, high interest books to my library will motivate my students to actually WANT to read. When I am able to add new books to the classroom library, students line up to be the first to get a chance to read them! These new books will keep them engaged and interested. Reading will not seem so much as a chore to them, but something they look forward to!

When they are excited to read, they become excited and motivated to learn. These books will benefit my students today and in years to come.
