I teach third grade in Massachusetts. The school is in a high poverty area and many of the students are reading below grade level. My students come from low income homes and have limited access to age appropriate literature. For some students, the only time they do have access to books is during school. Their key to success is to become proficient in reading. They work hard each and every day to become smarter. My students are dedicated to becoming "scholars" and graduate high school and go to college. It is crucial to get them reading on grade level in order for them to achieve these goals! The only way I can do this is getting them to read, read, read!
