Help My Room Feel More Welcoming For My Autistic Students.

My students need a kidney table, 6 at-your-seat storage sacks, a magnetic white board, a tabletop supply caddy and 6 school-to-home organizers.

FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Cosimano's classroom raised $608

My Students

I teach at a small elementary school in Brooklyn, NY for students with severe disabilities. The students in my classroom are between eight and ten years old. I have four boys and two girl in my class this year.

All of the students in my classroom have Autism Spectrum Disorder, but that doesn't stop them from being amazing and unique individuals.

My students are very social, they like playing, working and learning together. They thrive in an environment that is well organized and structured.

My Project

My new classroom has really large desks that are too tall for my students. The desks are falling apart and make our classroom feel very crowded and junky.

Getting a kidney table would help the classroom to feel more spacious and open.

The kidney table is adjustable so it can be set to the right height for my students and can be changed as my students grow. The kidney table will also make it easier to teach my six students as many of them require one-on-one attention to complete their work. The magnetic whiteboard will make it easier to teach things while working at the kidney table, it will allow me to write down quick ideas for my students. The at-your-seat storage sack will fit over my students' chairs and give them a place to keep some of their notebooks.

The tabletop supply caddy will give me a way to have all of our supplies in one place. I can then bring the caddy out when we need things like scissors, colored pencils or glue sticks. The school-to-home organizers will make it easier to communicate with parents. The folders are heavy duty and have specific pockets for papers to be returned to school and papers that can stay at home. This will make communicating with parents easier, especially with my students who a minimally verbal.
