My Students
Some of my reluctant students have discovered graphic novels/comics books particularly the super hero graphic novels (Superman, Batman, Thor. etc.). Graphic novels/comics books have captured their imaginations. This could be the year that inspires and motivates their love for reading.
My school has 650 students of many diverse and unique backgrounds.
We are a Title I school with well over 95% of our students qualifying for free or reduced lunch. Many of my students are reluctant readers and do not currently read at their grade level. I hope having more selections in our library materials will encourage my students to succeed in their reading efforts and seek to be lifelong readers.
My Project
The donations to this project will help to improve my students' reading scores.
Graphic novels develop and reinforce reading skills like inferencing, demonstrate punctuation and grammar rules, and explain figurative language.
Readers can also quickly develop literacy skills such as general reading comprehension, inference, and building new vocabulary, as they leap into the narrative without struggling with the format of a traditional novel.
Readers will also be able to choose books that interest them. The best way to increase reading ability is to read more, and these graphic novels will continue to help my students grow stronger in reading.
