My project is to help my middle school orchestra students. They range in ability from beginners who have never played before to students with multiple years of experience on their instruments.
They are a diverse group of students with many of them coming from low income homes.
They face many challenges at home, so school is often an oasis for them. But they work hard to overcome their obstacles and strive for excellence in my class. I am proud of their tenacity.
My Project
Each year, I teach my orchestra students how to tune their violins, violas, cellos, and basses using clip on electric tuners. I currently have 22 working tuners. This was okay when my class when my class was smaller. But I am thrilled to say that my numbers have gone up and I have more students in my orchestra class this year. That is why I am requesting 10 Snark clip on tuners, as well as batteries to keep them powered up for daily use.
When I teach them how to tune, I would like each student to have the experience of using the tuner themselves and manipulating their instrument.
I don't want them to miss out on the practice because we don't have enough tuners for everyone. This will also help speed up tuning time since students won't have to wait on shared tuners.
