This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am blessed to teach Houston's hardest working 6th graders. My students face many tough challenges on a daily basis and my hope is that at least for the 100 minutes they spend in my classroom, they can leave those stresses and struggles behind and just do Math. 100% of my students are minority students living in or around Houston's historical Fifth Ward. Most of my students will be the first in their families to go to college. My job is to teach them the Math content they will need to be successful in future grades, on the SAT, in college, and in life.

My Project

My students and I would really appreciate your support in spicing up our classroom!

I am looking for:

-Algebra tiles to use when introducing like and unlike terms

-Write and wipe cover sheets so I can stick worksheets in them and the students can do their work on the cover sheet with a dry erase marker (they love anything with Expo's and this allows me to reuse worksheets, too)

-3 bean bags to provide some flexible seating and to make an "extension corner" that was requested by the students. This is a space where they can go sit when they have finished their work for the day and work on an extension game/ puzzle

-A set of 30 white boards with fraction number lines to help students compare and order fractions, whole numbers, and decimal numbers

-3 hanging folders so I can organize my papers (homework, absent student work, extension activities, extra practice problems) in an efficient, student-friendly way
