This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My wonderful second graders love reading, especially graphic novels, superhero books, and joke books. They are caring, creative, and hard-working. They are eager to fluently add and subtract. Their eyes light up when they are engaged in learning experiences.
Please help make our classroom into the organized and supportive learning environment my students so desperately need.
For many of my students, the classroom is a place to escape into a nurturing, supportive environment. Almost all of them come from low income households. Many of them have experienced trauma in their lives and have difficulty coming to school. Once they are in the classroom we work as hard as possible to create a nurturing space that will help them live up to their potential and be happy, healthy, and successful.
My Project
Help my readers stay up on current events with TIME For Kids magazine. Help them learn about the natural world with informational books. Help them get lost in a book with Captain Underpants.
Most of my students started this year reading at least one year below grade level.
Help my students close this gap. They are wonderful children who deserve a real chance, and your generosity can help make that happen!
My students read in the classroom every day. We need a wide variety of reading materials to make sure our reluctant readers get excited about reading. My students' eyes light up whenever we add a new book to the library.
