This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
The school has a diverse population in terms of socioeconomic status, ethnicity, and learning needs. In my classroom we have students that are gifted, English Language Learners, and students with special needs.
My students are very enthusiastic about school and learning.
They love hearing stories read aloud and writing/drawing about their own lives. They also love singing and dancing. They are very kind and loving to each other. They are creative and often blow me away with their skills and ideas.
My Project
I am requesting several different books that will be of high interest to my beginning readers. This will encourage my students' love of reading.
Every educator knows how important a love of reading is to a students success academically.
This project will help me ensure that every student finds a book that they love and will want to continue to read over and over.
I am also requesting a Leap Frog Tag Reader to replace two that have broken over the years. As a kindergarten teacher, I have seen how powerful the TAG reading system can be for beginning readers. The TAG reading system allows the children to access literature that they would not normally be able to read. The TAG reader also helps them develop valuable literacy skills such as concepts of print, letter sounds, sight words, and reading comprehension. Not only does it teach them valuable skills that are necessary for them to become readers, they absolutely love using them. Using the TAG readers with my kindergartners this year, will give them the additional support they need to ensure a successful educational career.
The ink cartridges will be used to print student worksheets and charts, to give them additional practice in skills that have been taught and to give them something to reference while they are working independently.
The Magnetic Folders will be used to store student work, to keep the room from being cluttered and to keep them focused on their work.
