My students, coming from a school district that was shut down by the state for the unjust education, have faced many obstacles the average 50-year-old has never faced. They come to school to learn, despite the lack of stability at home. They come from immigrant homes, are one hundred percent high-risk, and their parents often work two jobs just to make sure that the children have the basic needs for school. My students have a desire to learn and grow. They are eager mathematicians and soaring scientists. They want to be good role models for their younger siblings. They work hard each day, and they come to school with a positive attitude. I want to make sure that my students have the same opportunities to learn as their peers who are not facing the same obstacles.
My students recently suffered a terrible natural disaster, Hurricane Harvey, which was the most destructive hurricane Houston has experienced.
Many families lost their personal belongings, and some had to be evacuated from their houses by force. Our school is in a very flooded area, and they are suffering and wondering how they will ever recover from this tragedy.
My Project
My students have a desire to learn and grow. We must enter into 21st century learning where students problem solve versus answer questions on a worksheet to give them the necessary tools to be prepared for the real world. They want to be good role models for their younger siblings. They work hard each day and they come to school with a positive attitude. I want to make sure that my students have the same opportunities to learn as their peers who are not facing the same obstacles. To support my students' thirst for knowledge I need 5 Chromebooks so all students can easily get on-line to research the world around us, computer programming to create videos, or make a collage of their learning using Sway. This technology will also allow for independent research and exploration of the digital world around us. Enrichment or remediation will be easier because I can assign on-line activities and tutorials for those students requiring additional help.
This school year has been extremely hard for several of my students due to the impact of Hurricane Harvey; the sociological and psychological impact that this natural disaster has had on my students has been very hard, however they want to do better at school and achieve their goals.
By donating to our project, you will not only help to improve and increase student attention and focus, but you will ultimately help to increase their academic achievement. My students cannot adequately learn how to use technology if they do not have access. My assignments will integrate technology and allow students more choices on how to complete them. Technology enables students to apply critical thinking skills to everyday tasks. Your donation will make this happen! Your donation will not go to waste!
