Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I teach at a Title One school with at-risk students. This class is something they can all benefit from. We are coming to the end of a second year of me teaching a horticulture class. We have a large area at the back of the school, one half acre, and I would like to get more to have it thrive. It is great for them to know where plants come from, how to grow, propagate and harvest them. It is great social-emotional learning for them to get in the garden and get their hands in the soil.
Some kits, like the mushroom kits, are great for bad-weather days.
Others, like the worm compost bins and worms, are something I saw at another school garden and would love to teach composting to the students.
