My Students

Help us understand what we read! My first graders need to be exposed to as much literature as possible! It is not simply enough for them to learn to read; they need to comprehend, too! These books on CD are interesting and fun for the kids. They will help them learn to love and understand text!

My students are in a first grade classroom in a city school in Lowell, Massachusetts.

The population is a diverse one, and a large amount of our students are on a free or reduced lunch program. Due to this, not all my students have access to literature at home. My first graders love to hear stories and get so excited when they are able to read. Your donation will help them achieve their reading goals!

My Project

These resources will be extremely important in my classroom! The kids will be listen to literature they might not have the opportunity to be exposed to otherwise. Not only will they be seen in a small group with me and taught during whole group time, but they will get the opportunity to listen to a book on CD. This is quite the prize! Students love to be read to, but there is only so much time in our day. While I am taking small groups, I can have groups of students listen to books on CD and respond to them in their journals. This will help the students gain a love of reading and develop their ability to comprehend a story. They can also do this activity independently, so they can learn responsibility. And let' face it, kids love to play with the CD player buttons! Thank you in advance for your donation! It is greatly appreciated!

Reading is an important part of school and life.

It is not enough to just read a text; kids need to be taught to understand them, too. More importantly, in order for kids to understand what they read they NEED to read and be read to! Students need to be motivated and these books will help with this. They will be entertaining, yet at the same time drive home the comprehension objectives we have in place.
