My Students

My students come from poverty level housing. The children in my classroom are Head Start, 3, 4, and 5-year-olds so we try to make the day exciting and fun, and educational. Our day is filled with whole group time and small group center time.

The students especially love listening to books and engaging in small group actives.

This is where their young brains grow the most when they are engaged in educational play in my classroom and when we can talk in big and small groups about their emotions.

My Project

This is my 5th year teaching Head Start/VPK, my young students, 3-4 years old come from very low income homes. I have realized that we do not have to be in a pandemic for many of my students to hear and see horrific things in their homes and community. Now add more then a year of Covid pandemic and my students come to school angry and upset. I want to teach these babies this year about how to handle their emotions-vocabulary of more then happy/sad/angry. I want them to be able to express themselves without acting out, and to be prepared to move on to high grades, and to communicate without hurting other people. As well as emotions, I want to teach them a growth mindset, they might not be able to handle their emotion in my class....YET, but with your help they will understand themselves much better by the end of the year.
