This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My classroom is a combination 2nd and 3rd grade classroom of gifted children. The students in my gifted classroom are able to process information at a higher level than most students their age.

In my classroom, we focus on exposure to science and math-based job opportunities, STEM projects, hands-on lessons, and project-based learning.

The students in my class need less repetitions than most kids their age need to master information, so we are able to move at a faster pace than their grade-level peers.

My Project

This class set of nonfiction books about wolves will help my students develop background knowledge before studying fables and folktales from around the world.

My students will be studying wolves and their traits before reading fictional stories with wolves as characters.

These stories include different versions from around the world of "Little Red Riding Hood", "The Three Little Pigs", and many of Aesop's fables, along with an orchestra recording of "Peter and the Wolf".

We will be studying paintings of wolves, wolf calls, a map of wolf attacks, wolf skulls, behaviors in packs, wolf calls, and many other traits to attempt to understand wolves.

This will help my class understand why wolves have been portrayed as antagonists throughout history in literature from all over the world. Students will finish the unit by writing their own fable or fairy tale using a wolf as a main character and including factual information from our studies in their story.
