Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My scientists are eager to learn and love hands-on, active, engaging projects and challenges that allow them to think outside the box to find solutions!
Many of my students are experiencing hands-on science for the first time.
As 6th graders there are many challenges in adapting to middle school. My students arrived with an intense hesitation to conduct hands-on activities in fear of breaking materials or getting the wrong answer. As we enter our 10th week of school, I can happily say that my scientists are willing to take risks and look at wrong answers as opportunities to continue their investigations.
My Project
My students begin their Life Science unit. In this unit, students will learn about the microscopic world. My students will use microscopes to work in teams while they discover the tiny world around them. I strongly believe science is a subject best learned by doing.
Currently, I am only able to use one microscope for a group of four students.
I want to give every student the opportunity to use the microscopes daily.
With your help, I could increase the number of microscopes so that each group can benefit from more hands-on experimentation. I'm requesting twelve AmScope Dual Light Glass Lens Metal Frame Student Microscope + Slides sets.
The ability to have these pieces of equipment in our classroom is invaluable. My goal as a science teacher is to create an environment where my students can acquire real world skills that can translate into any field they want to work in.
