My Students

"A hero can go anywhere, challenge anyone, as long as he has the nerve." This year my special education students and I will begin our journey through the 6th grade common core standards. For us, our journey will begin with "Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief."

I am eagerly looking forward to meeting my wonderful students this year.

As a 15:1 special education teacher, I have the privilege to work with students who have a vast range of abilities, and who challenge me to differeniate learning to meet their individualized needs. We live in NY and are a public school. Unfortunately, we are struggling with lack of funding due to budget challenges.

My Project

Since my students are responsible for the same text as their general education peers, my goal is to present them with the same text in a much less intimidating and more easily digestible form. The class set of graphic novels will help my struggling readers gain confidence and reach new goals. By having the ability to read the same text as their peers in a graphic form, I believe my students would feel more comfortable and become less frustrated readers.
