Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have taught K-3rd at urban school settings for 24 years. Twenty-one spent at one school, and three at my current school where I teach 3rd grade. I am dedicated and passionate about the teaching profession and feel that no one should ever stop learning. Therefore, I always look for opportunities to continue learning and growing in my profession. Constantly attending workshops and taking advantage of training opportunities. I have my masters degree in education, an administrative credential, and I am proud to say, I am a National Board Certified Teacher (NBCT). How does this impact student learning? Research shows that students', specially low income and minority students' learning increases an additional one to two months of instruction when taught by an NBCT teacher. This year, I will be going through the Maintenance of Certification (MOC) Process to renew my NBCT credential. This is to ensure that I continue growing and learning in my profession while maintaining a strong impact on student learning.
I have a wonderful group of students who are eager to learn and grow, as their teacher, I pride myself in modeling constant learning and growing.
My Project
Great teachers are life long learners. I like to call myself a student for life. The more I learn, the more I want to know. I always look for opportunities to continue learning and growing in my profession which is one of the reasons why I became a National Board Certified Teacher (NBCT). Not just to impact low income and minority students' learning but to continue to grow as an educator.
Going through the Maintenance of Certification (MOC) Process to renew my NBCT credential will allow me the opportunity to continue growing and learning in my profession.
It is a reflective process where I have to provide evidence that I identify and address student needs, that I continue to deepen my knowledge in certificate-specific content (Early Childhood Generalist), that I effectively integrate technology that promotes student learning, that I mentor other teachers to help them grow in their profession, and that I ensure equity and fairness and promote diversity in the classroom. I hope to reach ALL the students in our school and collaboratively contribute to their success as life long learners.
