I am a music teacher at a small elementary school in Central Florida. I teach approximately 500 students every week in grades K-5. As a Leader In Me school, we strive to produce well-rounded student leaders who take charge of their learning.
My students are hardworking, amazing students who show their leadership skills and creativity each day in my music room and in their performances for the school and community.
Whether it's playing instruments, singing, moving to music, composing, or performing in our school musical, they love participating and having the opportunity to find their voice.
My Project
The American Orff-Schulwerk Association’s Professional Development Conference offers high-quality sessions specifically targeted to improving my delivery of music education to my students. I have been lucky enough to attend the conference in the past and can truly say it has inspired me and changed my teaching! Besides the many sessions, there are also performances by some of the best elementary music ensembles from the region and evening program events from which I am able to gain programming ideas and teaching strategies.
The presence of over 1,100 music educators at the conference also offers me a unique opportunity to collaborate with and learn from other educators in my discipline which is critical to my growth as a music teacher since I am the only one at my school.
The conference also offers me the opportunity to see national and international presenters which allows me to see a global perspective of the research-based strategies and kid-tested materials available to my students. Attending the AOSA conference is the only opportunity I have to receive this level of professional development as an elementary music educator.
I hope you will consider donating to my project to attend the Orff Elevated Conference in Salt Lake City, UT so I can continue improving my teaching for my students.
