My Project
I’m requesting funding to get the support I need to finish my National Board Certification (NBC) for Teaching. NBC is a voluntary certification made for and by teachers that goes beyond state licensure. Many of my colleagues have shared that pursuing NBC has been the hardest and most rewarding professional development in their teaching career. 2 years ago, when public schools were closed in California & the world was turning upside down, I decided to take a leap and pursue this certification.
I strive to be a more effective teacher for my students.
While only 3% of teachers nationwide are board certified, studies have consistently shown that students of NBC-certified teachers learn more than their peers without board certified teachers. This isn’t just about the certification though. It’s about the willingness to engage in a rigorous process of self-critique & reflection, and the NBC standards is giving me the structure I need to improve my practice.
I completed 3 of the 4 components for NBC so far, and I have just 1 component left. As a full-time mom and teacher, I need the support to get to the finish line by April 2023. UCLA has a support group that meets on Saturday mornings, 4 times within the 2022-2023 school year to work on this last component. I will have an NBC coach who will lead each of these 4 sessions and colleagues to work alongside while I finish my component! UCLA is charging $330 to be part of this NBC support group.
