This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am taking part in the Modernize Classrooms Project, an initiative to revolutionize and streamline student learning using blended learning, self-paced structures, and mastery based grading. Mastery grading is working well, but I am struggling to meet the other two goals in this project because I do not have the necessary equipment. I need quality headphones and splitters for my students to access lessons with audio for blended learning and self paced lessons to be successful.

Blended learning describes teaching using different forms of instruction.

Students may learn from watching videos, they might complete activities in groups or get direct instruction from me in small groups. This works to reach every student better than teacher-directed lectures. Self-paced structures give students the freedom to redo lessons they did not understand or need more time with. Having headphones for these activities is necessary because students will all be doing different things at different times. This differentiation will help students learn at their own pace, something that can't be done easily with traditional teacher-directed instruction.

Student earbuds do not work well because they break easily and do not block out classroom noise. The over-ear headphones I have selected are not only durable, but they will help my students stay focused on lessons by lessening classroom noise. I am also asking for splitters and jackboxes for students who want to work in pairs or small groups. Students will be able to plug these into one laptop and share the video presentations I create for them. All this equipment is durable enough to last for many years, so I should be able to use them now and in the future.
