This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Middle schoolers at LES rarely get a chance to showcase their knowledge in social studies they way they do with STEAM projects and contests, or different speech-writing campaigns in their ELA classes. We have the opportunity to showcase our students at a local, regional and national level by participating in The Great History Challenge! This has separate contests for each grade: 6th, 7th and 8th. Each grade level is tested on the same topics: ancient world history, modern world and US history, US civics and economics. The registration fee will ensure that every single middle school student at our school participates at our local, school-based competition of The Great History Challenge. This cost will also cover registration for our students that will move on to the regional contest and those that hopefully make it to the national level competition.

In Arizona, passing the US Civics Test is a graduation requirement that students can take as early as 8th grade.

Allowing our students to participate in The Great History Challenge will help bring more excitement toward owning this knowledge that will go on to help them succeed in this graduation requirement.
