Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
A typical day in my classroom is working on reading comprehension skills. My sixth grade students come to me completely unprepared to read and understand grade level work, and they need materials to help them succeed.
My students are in a high need area.
Poverty and language barriers are only some of the barriers my students face in order to become proficient readers. Many of my students have learning disabilities, and working with these manipulatives will help them succeed. My students are well below grade level, but I can see they want to learn and succeed in school, and these materials will help.
My Project
I will use the Reading Comprehension Games Library to help solidify the concepts taught to help students who struggle with reading comprehension and main idea. Many students struggle with writing skills, so I will use the Reading & Writing Skills Folder Game to reinforce writing skills. The Word Work Activity Stations will help students learn sight words and increase reading fluency. Four days a week, I am able to work on their reading comprehension and writing skills with them. These students will be able to learn how to read and write through activities and immerse themselves and learn by doing. These resources will help students interact with words in a way they were never able to before.
As an Orton Gillingham teacher, I have been trying my best to help my below grade level students gain the skills they need to read.
These materials will help make a huge difference in their lives, as it creates more multi-sensory ways to learn to read and write.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
