My Students

I teach in a life skills based classroom with students ranging from 14 to 21 that have significant needs. The students in our classroom work hard everyday to learn daily living skills, increase their independence, complete academic classes at their level, learn how to behave appropriately at school, home and work and improve their social skills. We also have a great peer program where same age peers help out in and out of the classroom.

My Project

I am blessed to have windows in my classroom that we can use some natural light to work by instead of turning on all 4 rows of the overhead fluorescent lights. However, we still have to turn on a couple of rows in order to be able to see our school work. The lights give us all headaches and as many of you know, they are just painful to the eyes and some kids can even hear the buzzing sound they make! This year, it is our hope that we can diffuse all of that bright, annoying light with light covers in order to help the students to better learn in a more comfortable environment.

As for the bungee chairs, I would also like to incorporate some different seating arrangements in the classroom utilizing some flexible seating options.

Adding the chairs to our new seating area will help to promote a more relaxed environment to learn in.
